e-Marefa began collecting data on academic journals in January 2008. Initial data collection and the subsequent study of more than 4000 Arab academic journals (in Arabic, English or French) published by more than 1400 academic \/ research organizations in 20 Arab countries (Djibouti and Comoros excepted due to lack of data) constituted the necessary foundation needed to establish the Arab Citation & Impact Factor (ARCIF) and also highlighted the nature of problems in Arab scientific periodicals and their potential impact on the ARCIF project, and then how to deal with them.<\/span><\/p>\n In light of this data and cooperation with Arab and international experts interested in the field, ARCIF has matured and become more sophisticated since 2013 when the project began.<\/span><\/p>\n After many years of foundational work, ARCIF was officially launched in 2018.
